When developing large-scale AR applications with EasyAR Mega, reviewing mapping results and achieving realistic occlusion are two important parts of the development process.
Previously, after completing spatial mapping, developers typically needed to open Unity, import the EasyAR SDK, and complete several configuration steps before viewing the mapping model. To make virtual content appear behind real-world walls, pillars, or equipment, developers also had to download dense models and process them manually using tools such as Blender.
EasyAR Mega now introduces two new features:
- Online preview of Mega Block mapping models
- Environment occlusion models now available
These updates simplify the workflow from spatial mapping to AR content development, helping developers complete map inspection, content placement, and occlusion testing more efficiently.
1. Preview Mega Blocks Directly in the Browser
View mapping results without opening Unity
In EasyAR Mega, a Block is a spatial data unit generated after mapping. It contains the 3D model and positioning information for a mapped area. Developers can use Blocks to review real-world environments, place digital content, and build AR applications.
Previously, viewing a Block model generally required Unity and Mega Studio. For tasks such as project acceptance, map inspection, or team communication, launching a complete development environment just to review a mapping result could be time-consuming.
With this update, developers can log in to the EasyAR Mega Developer Center and preview mapped Block models directly in a web browser. No Unity project needs to be opened, and no additional development environment configuration is required.
The online viewer makes it easier to understand the overall structure and details of a mapped environment, including walls, floors, pillars, equipment, and other spatial elements. Developers can quickly determine whether the mapping result meets project requirements.
Practical benefits of online Block preview
Online Block preview does more than eliminate the need to launch another application. It also makes mapping results easier for the entire project team to review and manage.
Developers can inspect the model as soon as mapping is complete, verify the mapped area and spatial structure, and identify missing or abnormal data before entering the formal development phase.
Product managers, project teams, and designers can also view the mapped environment through a browser, even without Unity experience. This makes it easier to discuss solutions, review results, and coordinate project requirements.
For projects containing multiple mapped areas, online preview helps teams quickly identify and distinguish different Blocks, improving the efficiency of spatial data management.
It also moves mapping quality checks earlier in the development process. The earlier a problem is identified, the lower the potential cost of subsequent content placement, positioning tests, and on-site rework.
Online Block preview is available starting with Mega Block v9.4
2. Environment Occlusion Models Now Available for More Realistic AR Experiences

Make virtual content follow real-world spatial relationships
In many AR applications, virtual content needs to do more than appear at the correct position. It must also follow the occlusion relationships of the real environment.
For example, a virtual character should disappear behind a wall, an AR navigation arrow should be hidden when it passes behind a pillar, and digital information displayed on industrial equipment should respect the physical structure of the equipment.
Without occlusion, virtual models may appear to pass through walls or pillars, or may simply be rendered on top of real objects. This can significantly reduce visual realism and immersion.
An occlusion model represents real-world elements such as walls, floors, pillars, and large equipment as 3D geometry. During rendering, the model itself is generally invisible to the user, but it participates in depth testing. Virtual content behind the occlusion model is then hidden correctly.
As a result, virtual objects can follow the spatial relationships of the real world and achieve more natural virtual-real integration.
Ready-to-use environment occlusion models
Previously, developers often needed to complete the following steps:
- Download the complete dense mapping model;
- Import it into Blender or another 3D content creation tool;
- Crop the model according to project requirements;
- Reduce the polygon count and optimize the geometry;
- Convert the model into a suitable format;
- Import it into Unity or another development environment;
- Configure the occlusion material and test the effect.
For developers without extensive 3D model-processing experience, this workflow could be time-consuming and introduce additional challenges involving model formats, coordinate systems, and polygon optimization.
With this update, EasyAR Mega provides downloadable environment occlusion models in Block Storage. Developers can select the appropriate model level for their project and load it into the application, reducing the need for manual processing of dense models.
Two levels of environment occlusion models are currently available. Developers can choose between model accuracy and runtime performance according to their project requirements:
- For scenarios that require more accurate occlusion boundaries, a higher-precision model can be selected.
- For scenarios that prioritize device performance and runtime efficiency, a lighter model may be more suitable.
With these preprocessed occlusion models, developers can validate the relationship between AR content and the real environment more quickly, shortening the time from mapping to final visual testing.
Environment occlusion model downloads are available starting with Mega Block v9.6.
3. A More Efficient Workflow from Mapping to Occlusion
With the latest EasyAR Mega update, developers can follow a more streamlined workflow for spatial AR development.
Step 1: Complete spatial mapping
Capture spatial data using a panoramic camera, mobile phone, or laser-scanning device, and create a mapping task in EasyAR Mega.
Once mapping is complete, the system generates the corresponding spatial model and positioning data.
Step 2: Inspect the Block online
Open Block Storage in the Developer Center and locate the corresponding mapping result. Preview the spatial model in the browser.
At this stage, developers can check the mapped area, model completeness, and major spatial structures before continuing with development.
Step 3: Download the environment occlusion model
Download the environment occlusion model associated with the selected Block. Choose the appropriate model level based on the project’s accuracy and performance requirements.
Step 4: Load the model into the development project
Load the model into Unity or another supported development environment. Make sure the model uses the corresponding Block coordinate system and remains aligned with the runtime localization result.
Step 5: Configure the occlusion material and test the effect
Apply the appropriate occlusion material or shader, then test the result using simulated data, recorded data, or a physical device.
Once configured, virtual content can be correctly occluded by real-world structures such as walls, pillars, and equipment.
The final occlusion effect may also be affected by localization accuracy, model placement, and the quality of the model itself. In real-world projects, developers should test the result and fine-tune content placement and occlusion areas as needed.
4. Supporting a Wide Range of Large-Scale AR Applications
Environment occlusion model can support a variety of EasyAR Mega use cases.
In AR navigation applications, virtual arrows, routes, and instructions can follow the structure of the real environment instead of passing through walls or pillars.
In cultural tourism and museum projects, virtual characters, historical information, and spatial annotations can integrate more naturally with buildings and exhibits, creating a more immersive experience.
In industrial digital twin and equipment maintenance applications, virtual information can align more accurately with physical equipment and maintain appropriate front-and-back occlusion relationships.
In large-scale AR and MR games, occlusion helps virtual characters and game elements blend more naturally into real-world spaces, improving spatial interaction and immersion.
